Christmas Espionage

Ottawa XPress, 14 Dec 2006.

By Sylvie Hill

As a gift from music-industry types around Christmas, you can expect everything from free beer to STDs. But forget VDs - Ottawa's "spy-fi" quartet The Reverb Syndicate are transmitting free DVDs this holiday season that are full of top-secret concert/tour footage plus their new animated video created by Ben Stanford. Get yours at their Evening of Xmas Espionage on Saturday when The Reverb Syndicate fight the forces of evil top 40 and bad taste with instrumental hip-swinging tunes full of twang and reverb straight from their debut album, Operation: Jet Set!

"A soundtrack to spy movies that don't exist," describes Jeff Welch of the Get Smart retro surf-rock sound. The four classy '60s-styled agents - guitarist James Rossiter, lead guitarist Mike Bradford, bassist Welch and drummer Mike Rifkin - will be joined by a killer line-up that includes The Solid Senders (garage-rock/R&B) and Sudbury's own working-class heroes, The Havocs (soul-tinged MC5). See The Reverb Syndicate now before Otto's Shrunken Head in New York City snags them as the house band.
